Based in France and responsible for a geographic export area, Area Managers market their company's products in a foreign country or group of countries. Their objective is to develop the company's sales in the assigned area. To this end, they establish and manage a local sales network. They may also direct the subsidiaries that are already in place abroad. They provide their local team with sales tools and accompany them in the field. They explore new markets, study distribution channels, establish a marketing policy specific to their region and negotiate major contracts, on their own or with local representatives. The make sure that clients' needs are met and the company's commercial policy is followed. They must have a solid handle on international commercial and financial techniques and be able to adapt and immerse themselves in different cultures: understanding other people and their culture is essential for negotiating with them. The must speak two foreign languages, including English. They must also be familiar with tax laws and international marketing rules.
